Fighting Rats can be a full time job until you learn to eliminate their food source, water and living areas. Cutting a rats food source is not as easy as one would think since they are scavengers that will eat animal feces as well as reverting to cannibalism as an extreme.

The Norway rat is the largest of the commensal rodents and the most common commercial rat in the temperate regions of the world. This rat not only damages and destroys materials by gnawing, eating and contaminating stored food but it is also of human health concern, being a major carrier of deseases. Norway rats reach sexual maturity in 2 to 5 months and pregnancy lasts an average of 23 days with the young being blind at birth. Rats are weaned at about 3 to 4 weeks with an average number of liters being 3 to 6 each containing 7 to 8.

The Norway rat has a keen sense of smell, touch and taste with poor vision relying on their long wiskers for guidance.

When seeing a sign of infestation its important to set a traping station that has enough poison for several rats. Rats set up runways, consistant pathsusually along walls, stacked merchandise or wood poles so setting a station nearby is recommended.

A station should be treated on a weekly basis until the population has been knoked down. Large apartment complexes, industrial food facilities need to store these chemicals and poisons in a safe manner and according to EPA guidelines. Pesticide Cabinets and other specialty Safety Cabinets are what is needed for storage of these products.
